Near the center of Valkenburg lies the Diepengaerde, consisting of several new apartment buildings. In the first phase, this plan consists of two buildings along the Geul River and one apartment building on Plenkertstraat. The latter building was designed by Rob de Hing of Lancée Architects.
Diepengaerde has a unique and equally beautiful environment with walking paths and is connected to the Wellness Park and the Polferbos with an open-air theater in Valkenburg. A new pedestrian bridge ensures that Diepengaerde is within walking distance of the Odapark and the center of Valkenburg.
For this plan, Nophadrain has supplied the products ND 4+1lt Drainage System, ND DGS-E Extensive Substrate, ND Sedum Plug Plants, and ND RS-8 Inspection Chambers, allowing the application of the Nophadrain Extensive Green Roof System within this development.
The fact that the new plan is named Diepengaerde is no coincidence. A name that is strong and has long been associated with the city of Valkenburg aan de Geul. The first part of the name is thanks to the Diepen family, which has significant importance for Valkenburg, especially in the area of Plenkertstraat. The Diepen family is responsible for the creation of the Bospark and Open-Air Theater. This location used to be an orchard forming a green connection with these two well-known places and the Geul River. The Diepen family name and the historical orchard (gaerd or gaerde) contribute to the historical name Diepengaerde for this plan. On July 12, 2012, the name Diepengaerde was unveiled by Councilor van Melsen and Mr. Peter Diepen from Goes.
